ReSale: These Perfectly-Imperfect Wall Pieces are an homage to the fight and struggles of the Native Americas in America. This Piece was created by a young Black American, because these groups of peoples have great love and respect for the earth and nature this art work is this Artist’s way of showing her honor for their history, culture and their American journey.
The Artist’s Perspective:
Each element of this art is representative of something related to the American Native story. The face of the sitting person is broken in two. The fragmentation has left a gapping gulf where the blood of their ancestors have left irreversible and eternal stains upon the hearts of those loved ones left behind. On the opposite side of the face are red skip stitches that are symbolic of the millions of war battered Native feet that were forced to exit the places they called home, and sometimes parts of their culture time after time. There are also are actual feathers on the head dress of the collage. The Fabrics are RePurposed, saved from our landfills. The colors of the fabrics speak the love Natives have for the earth, water, grass, blood, blackest of times ever, and even blank spaces for times when there were no peace, no rest, no treaty, no trust, no more family, no home, no food, no money, no protection, no humanity, no hope, no answers. And the seated individual is wearing a modern cloak and denim pants (blue jeans) representing a more modern Americanized leader and people.
